Over 100 kids came out for the 9th annual ‘Kids Hot Rock & Jr. Mountain Bike Race’ this weekend at the Portneuf Wellness Center in Pocatello.

Kids 17 and under participated in the event.

Kids under eight years old raced down the hills as kids eight to 17 years old started at the beach of the Portneuf Wellness Center and raced up and around the mountain bike trail.

Race organizers say events like this one help support the 150 miles worth of bike trails in the Gate City.

Money raised from the event goes towards digging trails, mapping trails, maintaining and developing new trails.

“Just one bridge was a lot of money that crossed the City Creek Trails, the Coogi Trail, the Mink Creek and Gibson Jack Trails that you see up there.  Anybody that gets out there and enjoys the outdoors, you’ll see those trails and they’re all supported by things like this,” says Barry Hunt, Race Organizer.

Organizers say over 150 kids participated in the event on Saturday.
