Bonneville County voters will soon decide if they want to transform Eastern Idaho Technical College into a community college.

If converted, EITC would offer general education courses transferable to four year universities.

The Community College Citizen Study Panel found that EITC would grow from 700 students to 15 hundred students in its first year as a community college.

Although some are opposed to the idea of EITC becoming a community college because they say it will lead to more taxes, others think it’s a great idea.

“There’s a lot of people in this area that go all the way to Rexburg for school, but there’s not a lot of space there for college kids to live anymore, because it’s gotten so big, so getting another university in the same area would be a really great idea, because it would fill a need,” says Emily Wood, Idaho Falls.

The election will be  held on May 16th.
