In a legislative update and three weeks into session, KPVI talks to a state representative to get an inside look at what’s going on at the state capitol in Boise.

State Representative, District 29-A, Chris Abernathy says a new ‘funding formula’ for education is in the works.

He says it’s still in its early stages but should be a good thing for K-3.

The representative says it will focus more on enrollment instead of attendance.

“I think it’s going to be a good thing.  I know the Governor, you know, he’s set out a pretty good budget for the education, but I still think we’re going to fall short.  I think we’re going to need more money,” says Chris Abernathy, State Representative, District 29-A.

Abernathy says they also awarded ‘AG’ teacher Marc Beitia, ‘Teacher of the Year,’ who has been teaching at American Falls High School for over 30 years.
