Pocatello High School should be seeing some upgrades in the next couple years.
The Pocatello/Chubbuck School District plans to connect the two main buildings to keep students safe from both weather and outside threats.
The two story addition will also have an elevator, to be more ADA compliant, as well as have classrooms on the second floor.
The main floor will have a common area with a new cafeteria, as their current cafeteria is small and in a basement.
"It's completely inadequate, it's really antiquated, it's kind of like a dungeon down there,” shares Shelley Allen, the Pocatello/Chubbuck School District Spokeswoman. “And so it will bring that up on the main level, between the buildings, and have an open area for kids to eat their lunches and be able to congregate at different times."
The school district says the changes being made to Poky High are similar to the changes in recent years at Highland High School, where they attached individual buildings with enclosures.
Construction on Poky High is planned to start in 1 to 2 years.
