An inmate inside a Torrington prison was hospitalized this week following an assault with a weapon, prison officials announced Thursday.

The Wyoming Department of Corrections made the announcement in a four-paragraph Thursday afternoon statement. According to the statement, an inmate was hospitalized following the assault, which involved another inmate.

The statement did not specify if a suspect has been identified.

An agency spokesman on Thursday afternoon said the statement had intentionally withheld certain details to maintain prison security and respect the joint DOC and Torrington Police Department investigation.

Mark Horan, the spokesman, said he could not say who the alleged assailant was, the provenance or type of weapon used, the alleged victim’s condition or whether the alleged assailant would be charged and how.

The Wyoming Medium Correctional Institution, where the attack took place, is one of the state’s five prisons.
